Tysons ZIP Code Coverage
Only two ZIP areas were confirmed for the Tysons census-designated place in the official research: 22102 and 22182. Fairfax County's Tysons market study uses those same two ZIPs for its analysis area, but it also says that area includes small places outside Tysons. That is why a ZIP narrows a Tysons search without proving that a delivery address lies inside the CDP. Both Tysons areas can also carry a McLean, Vienna, Tysons, or Tysons Corner postal label.
| ZIP code | Tysons coverage | Post office / postal label | Search note |
|---|---|---|---|
| 22102 | Tysons and Tysons Corner, including McLean-side addresses; extends beyond the CDP | Often McLean or Tysons Corner | Part of the county's two-ZIP Tysons study area |
| 22182 | Tysons and Tysons Corner, including Vienna-side addresses; extends beyond the CDP | Often Vienna or Tysons Corner | Part of the county's two-ZIP Tysons study area |
The Census profile places ZCTAs 22102 and 22182 fully or partly within Tysons CDP. No additional ZIP was confirmed as serving the CDP in the official sources reviewed. Do not add a nearby ZIP to a Tysons ZIP search without verifying a particular delivery address or an official boundary source.
Verify a Tysons Delivery ZIP
Use the USPS ZIP Code Lookup to verify one full delivery address before applying a ZIP filter in a county record system. USPS asks for the complete street address, city, and state. The automated research capture did not return a Tysons result, so a live query remains the reliable way to confirm a specific Tysons address. A result that says McLean or Vienna can still be relevant to Tysons, but it should trigger a parcel and jurisdiction check rather than an assumption.
Tysons property cards show why. One Tysons-planned parcel appears as Vienna, Virginia 22182, and other Tysons Westpark parcels appear as McLean, Virginia 22102. The county's legal and land-record custodian is still Fairfax County. A postal city is a delivery convention; it does not create a city clerk, municipal court, or separate land-record office for Tysons.
Note: A full delivery-address check is more precise than matching a business name or a ZIP label from an old document.
Search Tysons ZIP Code Records
A Tysons ZIP code directory search needs a different tool for each question. USPS verifies a delivery address. MAR can query address points by ZIP and keep a parcel PIN beside the address. PLUS has a public ZIP field for permit and land-development records. iCare's simple address form does not expose a ZIP field, so it is best used after a street or exact address is known. Virginia voter-list requests use locality or election-district filters, not a free public ZIP browse.
- Verify the complete Tysons delivery address with USPS and record the ZIP returned for that address.
- Check the Tysons address in MAR for ZIP, postal city, jurisdiction, address status, and parcel PIN, especially if an older record uses a different label.
- Use Tysons PLUS with the ZIP field, then narrow the record type or dates so the result set stays tied to a real permit or project question.
- Run the resulting Tysons address or map number in iCare to reach the assessment parcel card and compare the situs, owner-mailing, and legal-description fields.
- When the search becomes street-specific, continue with the Tysons street directory workflow rather than treating the ZIP as a substitute for an address.
A ZIP filter finds records tagged to a postal area. It does not identify all people who live there, and it cannot settle an ownership or title question by itself.
Filter Tysons Records in PLUS
Fairfax PLUS is the clearest local public form inspected with a ZIP Code field for a Tysons query. It is a Planning and Land Use System for permits and development records, not a people roll. The form also permits a site address, parcel, project, record number, date, license, and party search. New records generally use a record-type abbreviation, year, and five-digit sequence. That format is useful for a bounded Tysons permit question. Legacy FIDO records need an asterisk, and records missing from PLUS may be in the county's Land Development Information History system.
| PLUS field group | ZIP-related use | What a result may show |
|---|---|---|
| Zip Code with city and state | Narrows a public permit or development query | Records matching selected search criteria |
| Street number, prefix, name, type, unit | Refines a ZIP result to one site | Site-address context |
| Parcel ID Number | Joins a project to the land identifier | Parcel-specific record context |
| Record type, project name, start and end dates | Limits scope to a defined record question | Record or project chronology |
| License and party fields | Finds a named application or permit connection | Applicant, agent, contractor, or business information |
Fairfax cautions that PLUS is not for volumetric reporting. A listed applicant, agent, contractor, or business contact belongs to the record context and should not be taken as proof of residence. For historical system gaps, the county directs searchers to LDIP.
Use Tysons MAR ZIP Fields
The Fairfax Master Address Repository service makes Tysons ZIP geography more useful because its schema includes ZIP, city, jurisdiction, parcel PIN, subdivision, address status, effective date, change date, and expiration date. A MAR query can return Tysons address points and parcel pins. That provides a way to test whether an apparent Tysons ZIP mismatch is a postal-label issue, a changed address, or a different parcel relationship.
Keep the `CITY` and `JURISDICTION` fields separate. The first can reflect a postal place such as McLean or Vienna; the second helps place the address in the county's administrative geography. `PARCEL_PIN` is the bridge to parcel data. `ADDRESS_EFFECTIVE_DATE`, `ADDRESS_CHANGE_DATE`, and `ADDRESS_EXPIRATION_DATE` are useful when an address was changed through a development phase or new grid street. The county announced a mobile-friendly MAR improvement in July 2026, reinforcing its role as the address-continuity layer.
Tysons ZIP Code Geography
ZIP boundaries and the Tysons CDP boundary are different kinds of geography. A ZIP is a USPS delivery area, while Tysons is a Census CDP and county planning area. The two confirmed ZIPs reach beyond Tysons, and a Tysons-branded address can be outside the CDP. Census ZIP statistics should therefore not replace the Tysons CDP population count. For an address question, compare the delivery result with MAR, the parcel card, and the legal description before drawing a local-boundary conclusion.
- ZIP code
- A postal delivery area used to route mail; it is not a Tysons municipal boundary.
- ZIP+4
- An added delivery-routing detail that is more specific than the five-digit ZIP but does not establish a county-record jurisdiction.
- PO-box ZIP
- A postal label associated with post-office-box delivery rather than a street-address boundary.
- Unique ZIP
- A ZIP assigned to a single institution or delivery arrangement, which should not be treated as a neighborhood boundary.
- Carrier route
- A mail-delivery grouping that can assist routing but is not a resident list or a Tysons boundary.
The official research did not confirm a PO-box-only or unique ZIP for Tysons. It confirmed only 22102 and 22182, so the definitions above are cautions against extending a Tysons ZIP search beyond the records actually supported.
Keep Tysons ZIP Searches Narrow
A ZIP is not a current resident roll. The Virginia voter request form permits locality, district, or election filters for eligible and purpose-limited requests; it does not offer a free public ZIP search. The individual voter portal is for personal registration status. Its form asks for name, date of birth, the last four digits of Social Security number, locality, and a certification step. Protected address substitutions and specified personal fields stay out of public inspection products.
The state registry can search by ZIP, address, city, county or independent city, and radius, but it is an offender-registry tool, not a roster of Tysons residents. Its records have their own statutory scope and business-day update notice. Use the official custodian for the question at hand, rather than combining unrelated results into a list of people.
The Virginia registry landing page is the source for the public-use notice and registry search entry point.
Use a ZIP-capable registry only within its stated purpose. It cannot establish a Tysons household, voter status, ownership trail, or city-boundary location.
Tysons ZIPs in Change
Tysons is compact and changing quickly. The 2010 county comprehensive plan set a walkable urban-center framework with mixed-use districts, parks, grid streets, transportation, and public facilities. Current Tysons development work can introduce new streets, parcel phases, and updated addresses. That makes the stable parcel identifier, legal description, and MAR address dates more useful than an old postal label alone when comparing records over time.
The ZIP quirk is especially important here: Fairfax County's Tysons market-study area uses 22102 and 22182 but is larger than the CDP. A record filtered to either ZIP may concern an adjacent postal area. Use the county's mapping resources, the delivery address, and the parcel record together. This geography-first approach keeps a Tysons ZIP search focused on verified places rather than broad ZIP assumptions.
For an older Tysons address question, Jade's current and historical aerial imagery can show site change while MAR preserves the address-continuity fields. Pair those map layers with the parcel PIN and legal description. They make a changed label easier to investigate without treating either ZIP as a fixed local boundary.
Practical check. When a Tysons record says McLean or Vienna, compare its postal label, MAR jurisdiction, parcel PIN, and legal description before excluding it.
